Slat Panel Types
There are two types of slat panel (cladding panel) based on application:
A) Interior
Panels designed for interior uses with minimal exposure to sunlight, moisture and temperature difference. These panels are as below based on material :
Wood Veneer (MDF) : Usually MDF core slats covered by a natural, technical or vinyl wood veneer on top. These slats are either stapled or glued on a felt backing. These panels are usually 1-2 ft wide by 8-10 ft tall. Cost of these panels is $6-10 per square foot.
PVC/WPC : Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) panels are extruded profile with a vinyl cover on top in different colors from wood-look to solid colors and designs. These panels are usually 5-10 inch wide by 8-10 ft tall. They overlap and lock into each other for easy install. Cost of these panels is $4-7 per square foot.
Natural Wood Slat : Custom size slats can be made out of any kind of wood lumber and be stapled on top of a felt backing or straight into the wall without backing. This is the most expensive type due to labor cost.
B) Exterior
Panels designed for exterior uses with exposure to sunlight (UV protected), significant moisture and temperature difference. These panels are as below based on material :
WPC : Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) panels are extruded profile with wood grain on top in different colors and designs. These panels are usually 8-10 inch wide by 8-10 ft tall. They overlap and lock into each other for easy install. Cost of these panels is $7-10 per square foot.
Aluminum : Aluminum core slats with a paint layer on top in different wood-look and modern designs. Cost of these panels is $20-30 per square foot.
